(9) Gropius House - Trevor Morse

The Gropius House, was designed as a model for landscape architecture during the early 1930s. The Architect, Walter Gropius wanted to build a home that acted as a showcase for his students at the University of Harvard. He and his family originally came to Massachusetts from London, fleeing from the Nazi movement in Europe. The structure itself was built on a rather flat plot of land, but through careful organization of the landscape the family living inside could have a wide range of views from the home. By placing entrances in specific locations, the house was able to be decided into zones, these zones all had a unique view of the surrounding land. Groupie not only designed the house but also did the landscaping in the surrounding areas through careful selection of plants and trees which still stand today.
