(3) Wrap House - James Duke

Marc Boutin’s Wrap House is an interesting building to see – it strikes a strange balance of public and private visibility and makes use of a courtyard to bring both light and air into the space. As an infill project, it’s interesting to see it make use of abundant natural light, since such projects tend to have limited surface area and often feel dark and enclosed as a result.

I also find the material combinations interesting and engaging, though that may be a bias on my part as I enjoy combining wood, glass, and metals into rectilinear forms. It’s a very Baushaus feel, but with a lot less white, which I feel is a plus in inner-city conditions such as the site of Wrap House.
